Lavabit creator Ladar Levison has launched a Kickstarter campaign for the dark mail encrypted email initiative he’s working on in partnership with Silent Circle.
This magazine recently chronicled Lavabit’s partnership with the Silent Circle to create an encrypted email intiative. With legal fees presumably taking a drain on Lavabit creator Ladar Levison’s funds, he’s taken to Kickstarter to fund the initiative. The campaign is seeking $196,608 (exactly) to take Lavabit’s native source code and create a completely free and open source email system with the dark mail protocol.
The protocol is meant to provide impenetrable end-to-end encryption. The campaign also includes the development of clients implementing the dark mail system over multiple platforms and devices.
